How Do I Care for Custom Cabinets?
Your
new kitchen cabinetry is an investment that you will want to take care
of. To keep your cabinetry looking new now and well and for many years
to come follow these simple tips.
- It is important to keep the cabinet surfaces and interiors dry.
Water can damage the finish or discolor the wood. Excessive standing
moisture (near plumbing or sinks) can result in a condition called dry
rot.
- Clean as needed with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Use a mild detergent or soap, and warm water.
- Don't use abrasives, powder cleaners, brushes, coarse dish
cloths, steel wool, cleaning pads, or harsh detergents. Harsh detergent
residues may dull or even damage finishes.
- Draping wet or damp dish towels over doors of the sink base cabinets can damage the cabinet's finish.
- Direct steam from appliances, ovens, and stoves away from cabinet surfaces using properly vented ventilation fans.
- Use trays under plants, fountains, pet water bowls, etc. to catch excess water.
- Protect surfaces, especially wood, from excessive heat from pots and pans, or warming plates. Use hot pot holders
- It is a good idea to have a touch-up kit on-hand for future needs. You can purchase a touch-up kit through JMF.
- Cabinet hardware, drawer knobs and pulls, can be cleaned using a mild soap and warm water.
